From spirit guide to faithful companion, dogs have walked alongside humans throughout history. Through ancient Mesopotamia, where amulets of dogs were carried for protection, to present day, these animals continue to provide comfort, reassurance and guidance.
The powerful lines of a sprinting dog can be traced on this beautiful pendant, which began its journey as a coin in Rome (c. 74BCE).
The reverse would originally have displayed Diana, Roman goddess of the hunt, moon and birth (complete with quiver and bows).
Washed up by the River Thames, the original form of Diana has been tumbled and eroded to create a lovely organic texture, reminiscent of her charge, the moon.
